Recitals
are an exciting opportunity for students to present their new skills in
a performance/stage setting. Parents, family members and other
students always enjoy seeing how much a young or newly taught pianist
has learned. From time to time, based upon the student’s development,
ability and availability, there may be opportunities to perform at an
academy recital. Students and parents will be provided more
information as recitals are planned. Since recitals generally require
the renting of a stage, equipment and appropriate seating for guests,
parents/students who perform can expect a modest charge to cover the
associated expenses.
Since a recital is an official performance
that trails on a long and rich historic tradition, students are
expected to maintain this cultural legacy by presenting themselves in a
professional, clean and organized appearance. Some helpful guidelines
listed below:
Males Male performers should, at a
minimum, always wear a dress shirt and tie. Dress pants, dress shoes
and a jacket always make for a nice presentation.
Females Female
performers must take care to ensure their attire neither interferes
with their ability to play nor creates a distraction. Long, formal
evening dresses are very appropriate. There cannot be any excessive
jewelry or hair arrangements.
Both Both ladies and
gentlemen performers should dress appropriate for their age.
Extravagant accessories, hairstyles or forms of dress that interfere
with the ability to perform or that create an undue distraction are not
permitted. Also, prohibited is clothing that is too casual, such as
jeans, athletic shoes, t-shirts, tank-tops; shorts, etc…, as well as,
chewing gum, eating of candy and other similar activities while
performing.
